El último post del 2006 para los Flaming Lips

El post que despide 2006 se lo dedico íntegramente a los Flaming Lips, mi descubrimiento musical del año. Algunos dirán que es un descubrimiento un poco tardío, pero como dice el refrán nunca es tarde si la dicha es buena.

La cuestión es que ya los descubrí con su anterior disco Yoshimie Battles the Pink Robots (2002). Y los escuché mucho. Me encató el disco, sobretodo Do You Realize. Pero pasó lo que pasa con la música que te bajas... que llega un día en que no sabes en que cd está el disco (si es que está en alguno) y ya no lo pones más.

Ahora la historia da un salto de cuatro años.

Y entonces llega junio de este año y me planto (con juan antonio) en el festival Pinkpop. Último día de festival, el cuerpo resentido de dormir en una tienda de campaña, decenas de miles de personas pululando por el recinto (atraídos por los cantos de sirena de Franz Ferdinand, Keane, y sobretodo Red Hot Chilli Pepers) y tras un muy buen concierto de Editors aparecen los Flaming. Increible. Explosiones de confetti, balones gigantes, santa claus a un lado del escenario, marcianos al otro ambos bailando al son de la música. Comunión total con el público, buen rollo a toneladas. Al final, todos desfilando fuera de la carpa con una sonrisa estúpida en la cara. Nos lo habíamos pasado muy bien.
Y como me gustó el concierto he ido comprando sus tres últimos discos.

Y de su último disco sale este tema, The W.A.N.D (The Will Always Negates Defeat). Pongo dos versiones; un vídeo más convencional (con la banda tocando) y otro un poco más "experimental" con mensaje final. Además pongo la letra, muy apropiada para este año que dejamos atrás.
